Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Services, Industrials and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.11%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO), which rose 1.52% or 0.92 points to trade at 61.56 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.30% or 0.77 points to end at 59.86 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.27% or 2.12 points to 169.02 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 2.86% or 4.84 points to trade at 164.34 in late trade. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) declined 1.80% or 6.11 points to end at 332.89 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) shed 1.64% or 2.95 points to 176.59.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which rose 12.06% to 162.13, Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:HAS) which was up 11.85% to settle at 65.03 and Westinghouse Air Brake Technologies Corp (NYSE:WAB) which gained 10.04% to close at 163.38.
The worst performers were Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:ODFL) which was down 11.05% to 195.06 in late trade, Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) which lost 10.89% to settle at 362.72 and Fortive Corp (NYSE:FTV) which was down 5.76% to 76.05 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Chicken Soup for the Soul Entertainment (NASDAQ:CSSE) which rose 179.25% to 0.43, reAlpha Tech Corp (NASDAQ:AIRE) which was up 93.01% to settle at 1.16 and BranchOut Food Inc (NASDAQ:BOF) which gained 82.46% to close at 2.08.
The worst performers were GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) which was down 36.97% to 0.48 in late trade, iSun Inc (NASDAQ:ISUN) which lost 36.91% to settle at 0.09 and Vaxxinity Inc (NASDAQ:VAXX) which was down 33.70% to 0.13 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1629 to 1204 and 83 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1811 fell and 1532 advanced, while 147 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.78% to 15.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.59% or 13.75 to $2,328.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 0.71% or 0.59 to hit $82.77 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 0.48% or 0.42 to trade at $88.00 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.00% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.35% to 155.36.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.16% at 105.67.
