Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.46%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.03%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.47% or 2.81 points to trade at 116.47 at the close. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) added 1.77% or 2.93 points to end at 168.64 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.69% or 6.88 points to 413.54 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 3.79% or 11.81 points to trade at 299.48 in late trade. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 0.91% or 1.67 points to end at 181.71 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 0.78% or 1.41 points to 178.38.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which rose 6.09% to 830.35, American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which was up 5.78% to settle at 14.65 and Quanta Services Inc (NYSE:PWR) which gained 5.11% to close at 269.44.
The worst performers were Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which was down 5.68% to 58.50 in late trade, Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) which lost 3.79% to settle at 299.48 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which was down 3.09% to 17.26 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Holdco Nuvo Group DG Ltd (NASDAQ:NUVO) which rose 157.35% to 5.25, XBP Europe Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:XBP) which was up 65.09% to settle at 3.50 and Plutonian Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:PLTN) which gained 57.07% to close at 9.55.
The worst performers were Lyra Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:LYRA) which was down 87.06% to 0.52 in late trade, GlycoMimetics Inc (NASDAQ:GLYC) which lost 82.76% to settle at 0.32 and Eyepoint Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:EYPT) which was down 43.26% to 11.20 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2187 to 677 and 62 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2035 rose and 1326 declined, while 127 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 13.49 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.09% or 25.05 to $2,333.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 0.64% or 0.50 to hit $78.61 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.58% or 0.48 to trade at $83.44 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.62% to 153.93.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.06% at 104.99.
