Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Oil & Gas and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Technology and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.16% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.08%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.22%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 4.01% or 7.89 points to trade at 204.54 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 1.33% or 1.17 points to end at 89.44 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.07% or 1.08 points to 102.47 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 1.80% or 1.91 points to trade at 104.20 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.62% or 0.63 points to end at 38.23 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) shed 1.21% or 3.52 points to 288.07.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were DaVita HealthCare Partners Inc (NYSE:DVA) which rose 6.49% to 88.38, Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) which was up 5.55% to settle at 163.71 and Henry Schein Inc (NASDAQ:HSIC) which gained 5.35% to close at 67.50.
The worst performers were Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which was down 5.67% to 92.79 in late trade, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which lost 5.03% to settle at 14.15 and Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:BBWI) which was down 4.22% to 29.73 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tenax Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:TENX) which rose 297.44% to 0.62, Tivic Health Systems Inc (NASDAQ:TIVC) which was up 78.33% to settle at 2.14 and Zyversa Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ZVSA) which gained 40.27% to close at 0.09.
The worst performers were Aclaris Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ACRS) which was down 86.44% to 0.64 in late trade, Mainz Biomed BV (NASDAQ:MYNZ) which lost 46.43% to settle at 1.20 and Verve Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VERV) which was down 40.83% to 9.29 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1520 to 1381 and 87 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1759 rose and 1695 declined, while 126 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.16% to 14.76.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.66% or 12.80 to $1,950.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 1.70% or 1.31 to hit $78.48 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.62% or 1.32 to trade at $82.75 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.17% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.12% to 151.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.17% at 105.54.
