Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.05%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.32%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 1.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which rose 2.85% or 4.34 points to trade at 156.87 at the close. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 2.54% or 1.35 points to end at 54.60 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was up 2.53% or 1.45 points to 58.79 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V), which lost 2.63% or 5.28 points to trade at 195.58 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 1.98% or 4.23 points to end at 209.90 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 1.63% or 3.35 points to 202.73.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Nucor Corp (NYSE:NUE) which rose 6.04% to 119.67, Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) which was up 5.62% to settle at 20.48 and Harley-Davidson Inc (NYSE:HOG) which gained 4.92% to close at 39.23.
The worst performers were Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which was down 5.93% to 25.36 in late trade, Mastercard Inc (NYSE:MA) which lost 5.42% to settle at 321.30 and Under Armour Inc C (NYSE:UA) which was down 4.99% to 21.50 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Longeveron LLC (NASDAQ:LGVN) which rose 181.16% to 28.200, iSpecimen Inc (NASDAQ:ISPC) which was up 80.49% to settle at 8.880 and Newage Inc (NASDAQ:NBEV) which gained 38.14% to close at 1.630.
The worst performers were iFresh Inc (NASDAQ:IFMK) which was down 57.75% to 0.4901 in late trade, ReTo Eco-Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:RETO) which lost 39.55% to settle at 1.0700 and Aurinia Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:AUPH) which was down 30.98% to 19.65 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1757 to 1519 and 129 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2416 fell and 1390 advanced, while 170 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 7.04% to 19.17 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 2.49% or 46.10 to $1805.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.54% or 0.41 to hit $76.35 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.56% or 0.44 to trade at $79.33 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.47% to 1.1235, while USD/JPY rose 0.79% to 114.89.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.52% at 96.530.
