Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Industrials, Financials and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.21%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.21% or 0.66 points to trade at 30.51 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 1.96% or 1.78 points to end at 92.72 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.76% or 3.23 points to 186.28 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which lost 1.57% or 5.44 points to trade at 340.99 in late trade. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) declined 1.54% or 3.74 points to end at 238.56 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 1.32% or 3.64 points to 271.36.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Incyte Corporation (NASDAQ:INCY) which rose 8.56% to 57.60, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was up 7.13% to settle at 125.67 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which gained 5.41% to close at 18.12.
The worst performers were Mettler-Toledo International Inc (NYSE:MTD) which was down 3.28% to 1,460.79 in late trade, Insulet Corporation (NASDAQ:PODD) which lost 2.94% to settle at 161.02 and HCA Holdings Inc (NYSE:HCA) which was down 2.90% to 317.17 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were CareCloud Inc (NASDAQ:CCLD) which rose 84.13% to 2.32, VinFast Auto (NASDAQ:VFS) which was up 51.50% to settle at 4.56 and Novavax Inc (NASDAQ:NVAX) which gained 47.64% to close at 13.11.
The worst performers were Transcode Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RNAZ) which was down 56.30% to 0.62 in late trade, Akoustis Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AKTS) which lost 26.30% to settle at 0.42 and Anebulo Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ANEB) which was down 20.98% to 2.41 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1430 to 1413 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1727 rose and 1635 declined, while 128 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 8.37% to 13.60.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 1.37% or 32.55 to $2,342.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.16% or 0.91 to hit $79.17 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.79% or 0.65 to trade at $83.44 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.19% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.33% to 156.23.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.07% at 105.11.
