Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.18%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.65%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 1.16%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which rose 1.41% or 1.31 points to trade at 93.93 at the close. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 1.23% or 0.60 points to end at 49.50 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 1.02% or 1.73 points to 170.73 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 4.66% or 2.15 points to trade at 44.00 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 2.23% or 4.52 points to end at 198.51 and Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON) shed 0.92% or 1.86 points to 200.75.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Etsy Inc (NASDAQ:ETSY) which rose 5.72% to 72.31, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 4.57% to settle at 16.38 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which gained 3.57% to close at 103.03.
The worst performers were Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST) which was down 7.64% to 725.56 in late trade, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which lost 6.99% to settle at 1,308.72 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was down 5.55% to 875.28 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Safe & Green Development Corp (NASDAQ:SGD) which rose 88.16% to 1.24, Ainos Inc (NASDAQ:AIMD) which was up 83.04% to settle at 2.05 and Mira Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:MIRA) which gained 71.40% to close at 1.57.
The worst performers were Amylyx Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:AMLX) which was down 82.29% to 3.36 in late trade, African Agriculture Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AAGR) which lost 34.18% to settle at 0.36 and Real Good Food Company Inc (NASDAQ:RGF) which was down 28.87% to 0.69 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1545 to 1287 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1728 fell and 1679 advanced, while 127 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.08% to 14.74.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.90% or 19.50 to $2,184.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.34% or 1.06 to hit $77.87 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.27% or 1.05 to trade at $81.91 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.64% to 147.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.04% at 102.73.
