Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.38%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.32%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 3.75% or 6.27 points to trade at 173.49 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 2.48% or 4.20 points to end at 173.50 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) was up 2.37% or 6.40 points to 276.38 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 1.63% or 0.52 points to trade at 31.36 in late trade. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) declined 1.28% or 6.32 points to end at 489.03 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 1.00% or 4.07 points to 402.25.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which rose 15.31% to 194.05, Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which was up 7.57% to settle at 125.73 and Domino’s Pizza Inc (NYSE:DPZ) which gained 5.62% to close at 527.13.
The worst performers were Franklin Resources Inc (NYSE:BEN) which was down 6.44% to 23.38 in late trade, Alphabet Inc Class A (NASDAQ:GOOGL) which lost 3.37% to settle at 166.15 and Alphabet Inc Class C (NASDAQ:GOOG) which was down 3.33% to 167.90 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Complete Solaria Inc (NASDAQ:CSLR) which rose 91.70% to 0.73, Mullen Automotive Inc (NASDAQ:MULN) which was up 81.01% to settle at 5.72 and Deciphera Pharmaceuticals LLC (NASDAQ:DCPH) which gained 72.56% to close at 25.28.
The worst performers were Clever Leaves Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:CLVR) which was down 60.58% to 1.62 in late trade, Addex Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ADXN) which lost 53.17% to settle at 7.54 and mF International Limite (NASDAQ:MFI) which was down 28.33% to 1.67 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1966 to 874 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1999 rose and 1377 declined, while 112 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.40% to 14.67.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.01% or 0.25 to $2,347.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June fell 1.38% or 1.16 to hit $82.69 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract fell 1.09% or 0.96 to trade at $87.25 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.07, while USD/JPY fell 1.36% to 156.17.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 105.50.
