Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.35% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.06%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.76%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 2.07% or 3.57 points to trade at 176.30 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) added 1.67% or 6.34 points to end at 386.90 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 1.64% or 3.29 points to 204.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 2.32% or 4.77 points to trade at 200.42 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 2.10% or 0.92 points to end at 42.92 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) shed 1.92% or 3.69 points to 188.04.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were MSCI Inc (NYSE:MSCI) which rose 9.31% to 602.24, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) which was up 7.81% to settle at 38.16 and Sysco Corporation (NYSE:SYY) which gained 7.54% to close at 80.84.
The worst performers were United Parcel Service Inc (NYSE:UPS) which was down 8.19% to 145.08 in late trade, Schlumberger NV (NYSE:SLB) which lost 7.24% to settle at 49.35 and Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE:WHR) which was down 6.60% to 110.02 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Remark Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MARK) which rose 264.43% to 1.25, Haoxi Health Technology Ltd (NASDAQ:HAO) which was up 62.40% to settle at 7.73 and Neximmune Inc (NASDAQ:NEXI) which gained 58.39% to close at 14.73.
The worst performers were Baijiayun Group Ltd (NASDAQ:RTC) which was down 81.90% to 1.35 in late trade, Meiwu Technology Co Ltd (NASDAQ:WNW) which lost 71.35% to settle at 2.22 and Sidus Space Inc (NASDAQ:SIDU) which was down 44.25% to 4.85 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1545 to 1327 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2233 fell and 1191 advanced, while 117 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 2.13% to 13.31.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.49% or 10.10 to $2,054.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March rose 1.30% or 1.00 to hit $77.78 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract rose 0.73% or 0.60 to trade at $82.43 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.06% to 147.58.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 103.21.
