Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Industrials, Oil & Gas and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Telecoms and Utilities sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.30%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.10%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.03%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 3.04% or 6.36 points to trade at 215.53 at the close. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) added 2.10% or 1.15 points to end at 55.81 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 1.45% or 2.31 points to 161.14 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which lost 1.60% or 2.63 points to trade at 162.03 in late trade. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 0.96% or 2.42 points to end at 250.90 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shed 0.88% or 0.29 points to 32.52.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which rose 8.22% to 38.04, Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was up 8.04% to settle at 63.27 and Gap Inc (NYSE:GPS) which gained 6.74% to close at 9.98.
The worst performers were SVB Financial Group (OTC:SIVBQ) which was down 24.12% to 0.61 in late trade, Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which lost 6.67% to settle at 0.15 and MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which was down 2.21% to 335.70 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were PLx Pharma Inc (NASDAQ:PLXP) which rose 245.67% to 0.36, GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) which was up 168.91% to settle at 3.20 and Agrify Corp (NASDAQ:AGFY) which gained 95.59% to close at 0.28.
The worst performers were Pear Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PEAR) which was down 50.62% to 0.11 in late trade, Apollomics Inc (NASDAQ:APLM) which lost 33.22% to settle at 8.14 and SHL Telemedicine Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:SHLT) which was down 37.24% to 13.37 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1950 to 1021 and 129 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2117 rose and 1448 declined, while 183 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.10% to 18.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.97% or 19.65 to $2,006.75 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.05% or 0.85 to hit $79.85 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.03% or 0.88 to trade at $84.24 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.32% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 1.11% to 133.60.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.48% at 102.22.
