Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Telecoms and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.15% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.01%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.35%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.82% or 7.22 points to trade at 263.46 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 2.17% or 0.98 points to end at 46.16 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) was up 1.68% or 4.32 points to 261.53 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 1.36% or 0.51 points to trade at 37.35 in late trade. Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) declined 1.17% or 1.83 points to end at 155.04 and McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) shed 1.07% or 3.10 points to 286.92.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which rose 6.58% to 168.67, Steel Dynamics Inc (NASDAQ:STLD) which was up 4.52% to settle at 124.52 and Costco Wholesale Corp (NASDAQ:COST) which gained 4.45% to close at 658.82.
The worst performers were Exelon Corporation (NASDAQ:EXC) which was down 6.36% to 35.49 in late trade, Ameren Corp (NYSE:AEE) which lost 4.43% to settle at 71.70 and Zions Bancorporation (NASDAQ:ZION) which was down 4.01% to 43.84 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were iCoreConnect Inc (NASDAQ:ICCT) which rose 73.47% to 1.70, Virpax Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:VRPX) which was up 62.99% to settle at 0.39 and Verrica Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:VRCA) which gained 61.97% to close at 6.09.
The worst performers were Chanson International Holding (NASDAQ:CHSN) which was down 87.85% to 1.82 in late trade, Maison Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:MSS) which lost 83.56% to settle at 2.50 and Aadi Bioscience Inc (NASDAQ:AADI) which was down 56.42% to 2.34 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1962 to 938 and 75 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2036 fell and 1421 advanced, while 98 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.60% to 12.28.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.57% or 11.65 to $2,033.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 0.03% or 0.02 to hit $71.60 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 0.20% or 0.15 to trade at $76.76 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.88% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.26% to 142.24.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.64% at 102.22.
