Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Healthcare, Consumer Goods and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Telecoms and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.65%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 1.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which rose 5.72% or 13.29 points to trade at 245.44 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 2.59% or 3.35 points to end at 132.67 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) was up 2.42% or 0.77 points to 32.61 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which lost 2.89% or 3.03 points to trade at 101.96 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 2.16% or 2.06 points to end at 93.10 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 2.11% or 6.33 points to 294.21.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Viatris Inc (NASDAQ:VTRS) which rose 7.31% to 9.39, Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) which was up 5.72% to settle at 245.44 and Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which gained 4.53% to close at 53.71.
The worst performers were Las Vegas Sands Corp (NYSE:LVS) which was down 7.46% to 36.36 in late trade, Wynn Resorts Limited (NASDAQ:WYNN) which lost 7.02% to settle at 59.64 and Netflix Inc (NASDAQ:NFLX) which was down 6.82% to 214.29 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Fednat Holding Co (NASDAQ:FNHC) which rose 107.65% to 0.34, Dice Molecules Holdings LLC (NASDAQ:DICE) which was up 62.27% to settle at 40.00 and Immunic Inc (NASDAQ:IMUX) which gained 51.77% to close at 9.41.
The worst performers were Happiness Biotech Group Ltd (NASDAQ:HAPP) which was down 24.66% to 2.42 in late trade, NeuroMetrix Inc (NASDAQ:NURO) which lost 24.30% to settle at 2.15 and Rigel Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:RIGL) which was down 21.00% to 0.90 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1771 to 1335 and 150 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2247 fell and 1539 advanced, while 255 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.64% to 33.63 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.07% or 1.25 to $1,673.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 2.79% or 2.54 to hit $88.59 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.65% or 2.55 to trade at $93.64 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 0.97, while USD/JPY rose 0.08% to 145.79.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.08% at 113.16.
