Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Basic Materials and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.07%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.01%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.20%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which rose 1.44% or 2.24 points to trade at 157.93 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 0.94% or 2.11 points to end at 226.65 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 0.91% or 4.48 points to 498.44 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ), which lost 0.87% or 1.52 points to trade at 172.49 in late trade. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 0.77% or 2.03 points to end at 261.82 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) shed 0.79% or 2.59 points to 324.93.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Ross Stores Inc (NASDAQ:ROST) which rose 5.01% to 118.72, Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which was up 3.68% to settle at 142.66 and Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) which gained 2.61% to close at 113.35.
The worst performers were Keysight Technologies Inc (NYSE:KEYS) which was down 13.78% to 129.37 in late trade, Deere & Company (NYSE:DE) which lost 5.28% to settle at 397.02 and Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 4.35% to 101.62 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:NEPT) which rose 75.56% to 0.24, JetAI Inc (NASDAQ:JTAI) which was up 64.25% to settle at 6.57 and EzFill Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:EZFL) which gained 44.38% to close at 4.62.
The worst performers were Evelo Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:EVLO) which was down 43.86% to 6.99 in late trade, Selina Hospitality (NASDAQ:SLNA) which lost 41.23% to settle at 0.43 and Impel Neuropharma Inc (NASDAQ:IMPL) which was down 39.73% to 0.38 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1673 to 1203 and 112 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1825 rose and 1652 declined, while 117 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.30% to 17.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.13% or 2.45 to $1,917.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 1.14% or 0.92 to hit $81.31 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 0.77% or 0.65 to trade at $84.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.01% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.35% to 145.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.13% at 103.34.
