Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Healthcare and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.30%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.11%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.56%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 3.92% or 6.96 points to trade at 184.57 at the close. Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) added 2.29% or 2.88 points to end at 128.42 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) was up 1.07% or 1.89 points to 178.33 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which lost 2.98% or 4.84 points to trade at 157.46 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 2.71% or 1.56 points to end at 56.07 and Travelers Companies (NYSE:TRV) shed 2.48% or 5.36 points to 210.34.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which rose 7.47% to 12.80, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 6.20% to settle at 16.02 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which gained 4.89% to close at 1,149.99.
The worst performers were Tractor Supply Company (NASDAQ:TSCO) which was down 6.21% to 267.56 in late trade, Builders FirstSource Inc (NYSE:BLDR) which lost 5.39% to settle at 152.12 and Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) which was down 5.34% to 34.74 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Avalon Globocare Corp (NASDAQ:ALBT) which rose 316.95% to 1.23, Hywin Holdings Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:HYW) which was up 91.74% to settle at 0.67 and Affimed NV (NASDAQ:AFMD) which gained 68.51% to close at 7.33.
The worst performers were CalAmp Corp (NASDAQ:CAMP) which was down 62.17% to 1.01 in late trade, Vintage Wine Estates Inc (NASDAQ:VWE) which lost 41.82% to settle at 0.21 and Cns Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:CNSP) which was down 39.87% to 0.13 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1556 to 1291 and 64 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1779 fell and 1584 advanced, while 128 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.47% to 13.11.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 1.02% or 23.85 to $2,369.65 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 3.68% or 2.83 to hit $74.16 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 3.50% or 2.84 to trade at $78.27 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.55% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.72% to 156.17.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.57% at 104.04.
