Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Technology and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.17%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.05%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.18%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 2.44% or 2.45 points to trade at 102.97 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 0.63% or 0.95 points to end at 152.72 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 0.59% or 0.70 points to 118.38 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 1.59% or 0.51 points to trade at 31.66 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 0.98% or 1.01 points to end at 102.34 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 0.81% or 1.91 points to 234.62.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which rose 13.01% to 0.39, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 5.89% to settle at 10.60 and Viatris Inc (NASDAQ:VTRS) which gained 5.82% to close at 9.82.
The worst performers were Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT) which was down 25.74% to 35.46 in late trade, Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which lost 16.41% to settle at 50.73 and EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) which was down 4.39% to 231.82 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Trevena Inc (NASDAQ:TRVN) which rose 393.65% to 3.11, Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) which was up 319.09% to settle at 25.98 and Bellicum Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:BLCM) which gained 140.00% to close at 0.96.
The worst performers were Aptorum Group Ltd Class A (NASDAQ:APM) which was down 31.96% to 3.64 in late trade, Zapp Electric Vehicles Group Ltd (NASDAQ:ZAPP) which lost 27.85% to settle at 3.29 and Interactive Strength Inc (NASDAQ:TRNR) which was down 27.01% to 3.54 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1601 to 1377 and 101 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1834 fell and 1732 advanced, while 183 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.22% to 16.98.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.16% or 3.25 to $2,028.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 2.07% or 1.48 to hit $72.82 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.78% or 1.34 to trade at $76.64 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.12% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.19% to 135.09.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 101.17.
