Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Financials, Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Consumer Goods and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.06%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.18%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.28%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 1.86% or 2.07 points to trade at 113.35 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 1.60% or 1.70 points to end at 107.97 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 1.07% or 1.07 points to 101.22 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which lost 1.54% or 3.11 points to trade at 198.84 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 0.77% or 0.94 points to end at 121.33 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) shed 0.77% or 0.96 points to 124.24.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Hasbro Inc (NASDAQ:HAS) which rose 12.89% to 106.04, Mattel Inc (NASDAQ:MAT) which was up 3.88% to settle at 16.59 and Dentsply Sirona Inc (NASDAQ:XRAY) which gained 3.33% to close at 46.53.
The worst performers were Halliburton Company (NYSE:HAL) which was down 8.10% to 41.54 in late trade, Illinois Tool Works Inc (NYSE:ITW) which lost 7.22% to settle at 136.26 and Stanley Black & Decker Inc (NYSE:SWK) which was down 3.84% to 138.69 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Reata Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:RETA) which rose 64.98% to 76.5500, Aralez Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ARLZ) which was up 36.14% to settle at 0.43 and LifePoint Health Inc (NASDAQ:LPNT) which gained 35.49% to close at 64.90.
The worst performers were Rewalk Robotics Ltd (NASDAQ:RWLK) which was down 24.00% to 0.95 in late trade, Beasley Broadcast Group Inc (NASDAQ:BBGI) which lost 16.04% to settle at 8.900 and Innovate Biopharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:INNT) which was down 13.75% to 5.33 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1737 to 1295 and 144 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1279 fell and 1274 advanced, while 129 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.87% to 12.62.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.53% or 6.50 to $1224.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.63% or 0.43 to hit $67.83 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.10 to trade at $72.97 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.23% to 1.1694, while USD/JPY fell 0.08% to 111.38.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.17% at 94.41.
