Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Healthcare, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods, Consumer Services and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.05%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.17%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.19%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 1.95% or 0.92 points to trade at 48.00 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) added 1.73% or 4.83 points to end at 284.16 and Merck & Company Inc (NYSE:MRK) was up 1.23% or 1.31 points to 107.70 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 11.83% or 14.49 points to trade at 108.04 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 1.09% or 1.00 points to end at 91.02 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 0.60% or 1.58 points to 260.44.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were ANSYS Inc (NASDAQ:ANSS) which rose 18.08% to 357.98, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was up 4.09% to settle at 94.89 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which gained 3.20% to close at 150.10.
The worst performers were Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) which was down 11.83% to 108.04 in late trade, Synopsys Inc (NASDAQ:SNPS) which lost 6.34% to settle at 524.46 and VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was down 3.23% to 18.59 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Nextplay Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:NXTP) which rose 201.66% to 2.73, Jin Medical International Ltd (NASDAQ:ZJYL) which was up 97.23% to settle at 139.01 and Daseke Inc (NASDAQ:DSKE) which gained 64.97% to close at 8.10.
The worst performers were Allovir Inc (NASDAQ:ALVR) which was down 67.15% to 0.77 in late trade, Jayud Global Logistics Ltd (NASDAQ:JYD) which lost 53.96% to settle at 1.28 and Brilliant Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:BRLI) which was down 43.95% to 4.70 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1915 to 943 and 96 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2245 rose and 1162 declined, while 110 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.54% to 13.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.63% or 12.85 to $2,064.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 0.46% or 0.34 to hit $73.55 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 0.26% or 0.21 to trade at $79.18 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.02% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.26% to 142.48.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.11% at 101.37.
