Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.49%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.65%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.96%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which rose 1.85% or 1.91 points to trade at 105.03 at the close. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) added 1.41% or 4.83 points to end at 346.75 and JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) was up 1.35% or 2.54 points to 190.51 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 3.02% or 9.16 points to trade at 294.16 in late trade. Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) declined 2.42% or 4.33 points to end at 174.42 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) shed 2.07% or 8.80 points to 416.42.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were CoStar Group Inc (NASDAQ:CSGP) which rose 8.32% to 95.18, Steel Dynamics Inc (NASDAQ:STLD) which was up 4.34% to settle at 137.90 and Cummins Inc (NYSE:CMI) which gained 4.23% to close at 274.73.
The worst performers were Jabil Circuit Inc (NYSE:JBL) which was down 16.42% to 123.24 in late trade, Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) which lost 13.67% to settle at 492.46 and Ulta Beauty Inc (NASDAQ:ULTA) which was down 5.21% to 535.98 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were VERB TECHNOLOGY COMPANY INC (NASDAQ:VERB) which rose 215.86% to 0.44, Geron Corporation (NASDAQ:GERN) which was up 92.00% to settle at 3.36 and LianBio ADR (NASDAQ:LIAN) which gained 83.05% to close at 0.35.
The worst performers were C3is Inc (NASDAQ:CISS) which was down 64.18% to 0.03 in late trade, Immuneering Corp (NASDAQ:IMRX) which lost 34.14% to settle at 1.91 and Groupon Inc (NASDAQ:GRPN) which was down 30.71% to 12.59 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1598 to 1239 and 98 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1842 rose and 1544 declined, while 109 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.07% to 14.41.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.27% or 5.80 to $2,161.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 0.32% or 0.26 to hit $81.00 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 0.14% or 0.12 to trade at $85.30 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.08% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.50% to 149.07.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 103.07.
