Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Telecoms, Oil & Gas and Utilities sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.51%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.80%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.01%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 7.54% or 16.43 points to trade at 234.44 at the close. Unitedhealth Group (NYSE:UNH) added 2.85% or 13.72 points to end at 495.37 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 2.81% or 4.86 points to 177.61 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN), which lost 1.60% or 2.88 points to trade at 176.44 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 0.22% or 0.73 points to end at 338.52 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) gained 0.23% or 0.94 points to 415.13.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Caesars Entertainment Corporation (NASDAQ:CZR) which rose 11.65% to 35.56, VF Corporation (NYSE:VFC) which was up 7.66% to settle at 13.28 and Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) which gained 7.54% to close at 234.44.
The worst performers were Paycom Soft (NYSE:PAYC) which was down 8.58% to 145.32 in late trade, Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which lost 5.89% to settle at 142.55 and Super Micro Computer Inc (NASDAQ:SMCI) which was down 5.25% to 784.51 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Novo Integrated Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NVOS) which rose 135.03% to 1.05, Brand Engagement Network Inc (NASDAQ:BNAI) which was up 110.85% to settle at 5.44 and Portage Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:PRTG) which gained 91.56% to close at 0.48.
The worst performers were Webuy Global Ltd (NASDAQ:WBUY) which was down 61.38% to 0.24 in late trade, Smart for Life Inc (NASDAQ:SMFL) which lost 42.21% to settle at 3.45 and Sify Technologies Limited (NASDAQ:SIFY) which was down 34.52% to 1.10 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2173 to 685 and 50 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1952 rose and 1384 declined, while 146 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 10.71% to 12.92.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.77% or 18.25 to $2,348.25 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July fell 0.85% or 0.66 to hit $77.25 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract fell 0.61% or 0.50 to trade at $81.38 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.33% to 157.32.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.06% at 104.59.
