Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Telecoms, Healthcare and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.47% to hit a new 52-week high, while the S&P 500 index added 0.38%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.23%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 9.36% or 21.55 points to trade at 251.90 at the close. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) added 3.37% or 18.02 points to end at 553.00 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 3.23% or 7.25 points to 231.68 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 0.48% or 0.22 points to trade at 44.73 in late trade. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) declined 0.34% or 0.53 points to end at 155.55 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 0.25% or 0.36 points to 143.55.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) which rose 9.36% to 251.90, Phillips 66 (NYSE:PSX) which was up 5.44% to settle at 128.87 and Discover Financial Services (NYSE:DFS) which gained 4.62% to close at 93.00.
The worst performers were Ford Motor Company (NYSE:F) which was down 3.12% to 10.26 in late trade, Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which lost 2.97% to settle at 10.46 and NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which was down 2.85% to 467.70 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Minim Inc (NASDAQ:MINM) which rose 386.74% to 4.48, Soligenix Inc (NASDAQ:SNGX) which was up 135.97% to settle at 0.98 and Incannex Healthcare Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:IXHL) which gained 84.95% to close at 7.99.
The worst performers were Green Giant Inc (NASDAQ:GGE) which was down 88.62% to 0.18 in late trade, View Inc (NASDAQ:VIEW) which lost 42.12% to settle at 0.63 and Yoshiharu Global Co (NASDAQ:YOSH) which was down 41.28% to 5.42 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1789 to 1108 and 81 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1747 rose and 1715 declined, while 131 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.46% to 12.92.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.50% or 10.15 to $2,036.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 2.75% or 2.14 to hit $75.72 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 2.79% or 2.31 to trade at $80.57 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.73% to 1.09, while USD/JPY rose 0.65% to 148.20.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.74% at 103.43.
