Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Consumer Services and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.73%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.36%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.11%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 2.79% or 10.39 points to trade at 382.29 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 1.73% or 2.11 points to end at 124.39 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) was up 1.32% or 1.41 points to 107.90 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 1.78% or 0.84 points to trade at 46.45 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 0.60% or 0.44 points to end at 72.46 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shed 0.60% or 0.70 points to 116.24.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were General Electric Company (NYSE:GE) which rose 7.09% to 12.09, Praxair Inc (NYSE:PX) which was up 5.06% to settle at 168.87 and Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) which gained 4.21% to close at 74.59.
The worst performers were Wyndham Destinations Inc (NYSE:WYND) which was down 4.34% to 41.48 in late trade, F5 Networks Inc (NASDAQ:FFIV) which lost 4.28% to settle at 190.88 and American Airlines Group (NASDAQ:AAL) which was down 4.16% to 39.61 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GreenPro Capital Corp (NASDAQ:GRNQ) which rose 157.81% to 9.900000, ARCA Biopharma Inc (NASDAQ:ABIO) which was up 82.14% to settle at 1.020 and New Age Beverages Corp (NASDAQ:NBEV) which gained 67.29% to close at 8.95.
The worst performers were Akorn Inc (NASDAQ:AKRX) which was down 58.71% to 5.36 in late trade, AVROBIO Inc (NASDAQ:AVRO) which lost 51.55% to settle at 25.13 and Rxi Pharmaceuticals Corp (NASDAQ:RXII) which was down 49.57% to 0.5900 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1788 to 1298 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1758 fell and 883 advanced, while 80 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was unchanged 0.00% to 12.12.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.31% or 3.70 to $1192.50 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 3.22% or 2.36 to hit $75.61 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 2.89% or 2.39 to trade at $85.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.22% to 1.1578, while USD/JPY rose 0.23% to 113.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 94.93.
