Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.55%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.17%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which rose 2.57% or 10.18 points to trade at 406.34 at the close. JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM) added 2.39% or 3.93 points to end at 168.28 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 2.19% or 9.59 points to 447.13 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 2.03% or 3.13 points to trade at 151.03 in late trade. Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 1.83% or 5.42 points to end at 291.42 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) shed 1.47% or 0.73 points to 49.10.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Dollar Tree Inc (NASDAQ:DLTR) which rose 9.17% to 144.71, APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which was up 7.31% to settle at 28.47 and Nov Inc (NYSE:NOV) which gained 6.87% to close at 12.92.
The worst performers were Best Buy Co Inc (NYSE:BBY) which was down 12.31% to 121.01 in late trade, Agilent Technologies Inc (NYSE:A) which lost 4.91% to settle at 154.78 and MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) which was down 4.56% to 42.51 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Aptevo Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:APVO) which rose 160.96% to 16.91, Pasithea Therapeutics Corp (NASDAQ:KTTA) which was up 153.39% to settle at 5.60 and Qualigen Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:QLGN) which gained 104.00% to close at 2.550.
The worst performers were Society Pass Inc (NASDAQ:SOPA) which was down 71.32% to 11.18 in late trade, Longeveron LLC (NASDAQ:LGVN) which lost 38.94% to settle at 17.220 and Enjoy Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ENJY) which was down 33.54% to 4.300 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1692 to 1585 and 118 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2140 fell and 1622 advanced, while 183 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.10% to 19.38 a new 1-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.88% or 15.95 to $1790.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January rose 2.64% or 2.03 to hit $78.78 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 3.55% or 2.83 to trade at $82.53 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.13% to 1.1249, while USD/JPY rose 0.24% to 115.14.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.05% at 96.498.
