Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Consumer Goods sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.28%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.13%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.43%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 2.98% or 4.29 points to trade at 148.48 at the close. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) added 2.28% or 3.56 points to end at 159.98 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 1.79% or 3.19 points to 181.81 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce.com Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 2.84% or 5.18 points to trade at 177.29 in late trade. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) declined 1.42% or 3.61 points to end at 250.38 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) shed 0.96% or 1.52 points to 156.64.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were SVB Financial Group (NASDAQ:SIVB) which rose 8.25% to 391.16, Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) which was up 6.57% to settle at 23.18 and CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which gained 6.45% to close at 90.28.
The worst performers were Newmont Goldcorp Corp (NYSE:NEM) which was down 13.23% to 44.59 in late trade, Align Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ALGN) which lost 5.19% to settle at 252.07 and IDEXX Laboratories Inc (NASDAQ:IDXX) which was down 4.56% to 375.56 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were GeoVax Labs Inc (NASDAQ:GOVX) which rose 150.39% to 1.59, Redbox Entertainment Inc (NASDAQ:RDBX) which was up 81.97% to settle at 5.55 and Virax Biolabs Group Ltd (NASDAQ:VRAX) which gained 62.48% to close at 16.80.
The worst performers were Yoshitsu Co Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:TKLF) which was down 29.57% to 1.62 in late trade, Enveric Biosciences Inc (NASDAQ:ENVB) which lost 28.36% to settle at 6.92 and Addex Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ADXN) which was down 28.28% to 1.42 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1923 to 1233 and 146 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1959 fell and 1814 advanced, while 215 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 1.43% to 23.36.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.60% or 10.35 to $1,717.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September rose 2.13% or 2.02 to hit $96.72 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract rose 1.77% or 1.74 to trade at $100.12 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.14% to 1.02, while USD/JPY rose 0.43% to 136.63.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.29% at 106.31.
