Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Wednesday, as gains in the Financials, Industrials and Consumer Goods sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Technology, Basic Materials and Oil & Gas sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.23% to hit a new 52-week high, while the S&P 500 index fell 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which rose 8.72% or 18.68 points to trade at 232.80 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) added 2.56% or 2.81 points to end at 112.64 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 1.37% or 4.46 points to 329.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which lost 3.72% or 13.06 points to trade at 337.92 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 1.43% or 3.74 points to end at 258.32 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 0.75% or 1.22 points to 161.34.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Union Pacific Corporation (NYSE:UNP) which rose 10.42% to 238.00, Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which was up 8.72% to settle at 232.80 and Zions Bancorporation (NASDAQ:ZION) which gained 7.46% to close at 38.45.
The worst performers were CoStar Group Inc (NASDAQ:CSGP) which was down 8.08% to 84.38 in late trade, Allegion PLC (NYSE:ALLE) which lost 7.69% to settle at 117.30 and DISH Network Corporation (NASDAQ:DISH) which was down 6.48% to 7.22 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Vicor Corporation (NASDAQ:VICR) which rose 57.72% to 93.70, Aerwins Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:AWIN) which was up 44.93% to settle at 0.35 and Aceragen Inc (NASDAQ:ACGN) which gained 42.06% to close at 0.89.
The worst performers were Aurora Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:AURC) which was down 35.88% to 21.50 in late trade, Celularity Inc (NASDAQ:CELU) which lost 28.77% to settle at 0.35 and Yoshiharu Global Co (NASDAQ:YOSH) which was down 20.27% to 0.72 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1824 to 1117 and 123 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2161 rose and 1351 declined, while 150 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.91% to 13.18 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.52% or 10.30 to $1,974.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.87% or 0.69 to hit $78.94 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.77% or 0.64 to trade at $82.61 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.29% to 1.11, while USD/JPY fell 0.39% to 140.35.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.31% at 100.78.
