Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Telecoms, Technology and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.20%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.09%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.29%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT), which rose 1.43% or 3.16 points to trade at 223.43 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 1.40% or 2.36 points to end at 171.48 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 1.24% or 1.56 points to 127.09 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which lost 2.11% or 0.64 points to trade at 29.66 in late trade. Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM) declined 2.07% or 4.11 points to end at 194.92 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shed 1.95% or 3.19 points to 160.59.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which rose 12.20% to 16.00, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which was up 8.52% to settle at 2.42 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which gained 5.88% to close at 183.96.
The worst performers were Carrier Global Corp (NYSE:CARR) which was down 7.28% to 41.93 in late trade, KeyCorp (NYSE:KEY) which lost 3.97% to settle at 11.13 and AT&T Inc (NYSE:T) which was down 3.79% to 17.53 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were In8bio Inc (NASDAQ:INAB) which rose 185.71% to 3.00, Aclarion Inc (NASDAQ:ACON) which was up 73.00% to settle at 1.28 and Netcapital Inc (NASDAQ:NCPL) which gained 72.48% to close at 1.52.
The worst performers were Bed Bath & Beyond Inc (NASDAQ:BBBY) which was down 35.67% to 0.19 in late trade, Scilex Holding Co (NASDAQ:SCLX) which lost 29.31% to settle at 7.26 and Petros Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:PTPI) which was down 27.68% to 3.84 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1593 to 1368 and 101 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2240 fell and 1362 advanced, while 158 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.72% to 16.89.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.43% or 8.65 to $1,999.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in June rose 1.12% or 0.87 to hit $78.74 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 1.26% or 1.03 to trade at $82.49 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.53% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.10% to 134.29.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.46% at 101.08.
