Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Basic Materials, Telecoms and Oil & Gas sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Services, Industrials and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.11%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.41%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 2.69% or 12.82 points to trade at 489.39 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 1.95% or 0.86 points to end at 44.86 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 1.93% or 1.91 points to 101.07 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 3.07% or 6.10 points to trade at 192.39 in late trade. International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) declined 2.16% or 4.24 points to end at 191.71 and Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ:AMZN) shed 1.93% or 3.39 points to 171.96.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which rose 8.69% to 111.98, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which was up 6.31% to settle at 11.62 and Albemarle Corp (NYSE:ALB) which gained 5.43% to close at 124.76.
The worst performers were EQT Corporation (NYSE:EQT) which was down 7.78% to 34.60 in late trade, Meta Platforms Inc (NASDAQ:META) which lost 4.42% to settle at 483.59 and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was down 4.34% to 198.39 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Power & Digital Infrastructure Acquisition II Corp (NASDAQ:XPDB) which rose 181.44% to 29.27, Aslan Pharmaceuticals Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:ASLN) which was up 160.80% to settle at 1.63 and Solidion Technology Inc (NASDAQ:STI) which gained 124.36% to close at 1.75.
The worst performers were Jeffs Brands Ltd Unit (NASDAQ:JFBR) which was down 60.70% to 0.62 in late trade, Lakeshore Acquisition II Corp (NASDAQ:LBBB) which lost 40.00% to settle at 3.00 and CareMax Inc (NASDAQ:CMAX) which was down 38.93% to 6.84 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1441 to 1426 and 77 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2044 fell and 1374 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.26% to 15.22.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.13% or 2.80 to $2,188.30 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in April rose 0.13% or 0.10 to hit $78.11 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract rose 0.41% or 0.34 to trade at $82.42 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.10% to 1.09, while USD/JPY fell 0.07% to 146.96.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.11% at 102.44.
