Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Utilities, Healthcare and Technology sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.12%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 2.22% or 0.91 points to trade at 41.91 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.92% or 3.35 points to end at 178.08 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was up 0.99% or 0.44 points to 44.87 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which lost 0.56% or 0.67 points to trade at 118.60 in late trade. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) declined 0.52% or 0.22 points to end at 42.50 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) shed 0.50% or 0.71 points to 139.96.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were McKesson Corporation (NYSE:MCK) which rose 4.26% to 158.67, DXC Technology Co (NYSE:DXC) which was up 3.92% to settle at 20.41 and Applied Materials Inc (NASDAQ:AMAT) which gained 3.92% to close at 67.62.
The worst performers were Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR) which was down 2.49% to 19.55 in late trade, Duke Realty Corporation (NYSE:DRE) which lost 2.29% to settle at 37.89 and Sempra Energy (NYSE:SRE) which was down 2.06% to 131.89 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Sky Solar Holdings Adr Rep 8 (NASDAQ:SKYS) which rose 51.91% to 4.770, Mesoblast Ltd (NASDAQ:MESO) which was up 51.40% to settle at 17.88 and Town Sports International Holdings (NASDAQ:CLUB) which gained 48.43% to close at 0.695.
The worst performers were Hexindai Inc (NASDAQ:HX) which was down 57.26% to 1.0600 in late trade, Sundial Growers Inc (NASDAQ:SNDL) which lost 35.79% to settle at 0.45 and Biofrontera AG ADR (NASDAQ:BFRA) which was down 29.67% to 16.09 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1507 to 1502 and 122 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1444 fell and 1325 advanced, while 85 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.36% to 22.05 a new 3-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.85% or 16.80 to $1953.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.02% or 0.01 to hit $42.23 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.02% or 0.01 to trade at $44.95 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.26% to 1.1843, while USD/JPY fell 0.30% to 106.59.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.25% at 93.088.
