Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Financials, Oil & Gas and Healthcare sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.50%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.43%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.26%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.30% or 1.01 points to trade at 45.01 at the close. Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) added 0.93% or 0.69 points to end at 74.90 and Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) was up 0.93% or 0.42 points to 45.76 in late trade.
Biggest losers included DowDuPont Inc (NYSE:DWDP), which lost 2.47% or 1.42 points to trade at 56.07 in late trade. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 2.36% or 5.36 points to end at 221.60 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shed 2.08% or 2.22 points to 104.51.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Jacobs Engineering Group Inc (NYSE:JEC) which rose 6.82% to 77.21, Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was up 5.79% to settle at 25.030 and Praxair Inc (NYSE:PX) which gained 4.40% to close at 166.88.
The worst performers were Scana Corporation (NYSE:SCG) which was down 10.98% to 36.40 in late trade, Bristol-Myers Squibb Company (NYSE:BMY) which lost 6.30% to settle at 50.88 and Synchrony Financial (NYSE:SYF) which was down 6.03% to 29.47 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Jetpay Corp (NASDAQ:JTPY) which rose 133.96% to 4.960, Euroseas Ltd (NASDAQ:ESEA) which was up 81.82% to settle at 2.400 and Top Ships Inc (NASDAQ:TOPS) which gained 55.12% to close at 1.9700.
The worst performers were Adaptimmune Therapeutics Plc (NASDAQ:ADAP) which was down 29.83% to 7.55 in late trade, Aduro Biotech Inc (NASDAQ:ADRO) which lost 29.46% to settle at 4.43 and LM Funding America Inc (NASDAQ:LMFA) which was down 26.57% to 2.93 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1861 to 1204 and 91 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1530 fell and 1102 advanced, while 94 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.26% to 19.64.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.16% or 2.00 to $1225.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.58% or 0.40 to hit $69.52 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.30 to trade at $80.08 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.41% to 1.1467, while USD/JPY rose 0.24% to 112.82.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.32% at 95.75.
