Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Telecoms and Financials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Services, Consumer Goods and Basic Materials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.42%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.02%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.50%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which rose 2.71% or 2.68 points to trade at 101.71 at the close. American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) added 1.67% or 2.56 points to end at 155.51 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 1.17% or 0.35 points to 30.28 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE), which lost 3.99% or 4.58 points to trade at 110.18 in late trade. Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE:PG) declined 2.62% or 4.01 points to end at 149.16 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) shed 2.10% or 1.32 points to 61.51.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Match Group Inc (NASDAQ:MTCH) which rose 6.72% to 33.98, EPAM Systems Inc (NYSE:EPAM) which was up 6.53% to settle at 263.67 and Pfizer Inc (NYSE:PFE) which gained 5.38% to close at 38.75.
The worst performers were Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 11.37% to 0.12 in late trade, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which lost 7.23% to settle at 2.18 and First Republic Bank (OTC:FRCB) which was down 6.02% to 0.36 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Microbot Medical Inc (NASDAQ:MBOT) which rose 158.05% to 3.17, Hepion Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:HEPA) which was up 117.51% to settle at 19.38 and AVROBIO Inc (NASDAQ:AVRO) which gained 69.01% to close at 1.31.
The worst performers were Rain Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:RAIN) which was down 87.71% to 1.22 in late trade, Monogram Orthopaedics Inc (NASDAQ:MGRM) which lost 36.22% to settle at 8.61 and Volcon Inc (NASDAQ:VLCN) which was down 33.20% to 0.73 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1792 to 1183 and 109 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2275 rose and 1297 declined, while 133 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.38% to 17.21.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.37% or 7.40 to $1,974.20 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 0.61% or 0.44 to hit $72.13 a barrel, while the July Brent oil contract rose 0.62% or 0.47 to trade at $76.05 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.42% to 138.56.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.04% at 103.12.
