Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Technology sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 1.34%, while the S&P 500 index lost 2.37%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 3.08%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which rose 1.66% or 1.82 points to trade at 111.19 at the close. UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) added 0.63% or 3.22 points to end at 513.13 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 0.57% or 0.75 points to 133.15 in late trade.
Biggest losers included American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which lost 3.35% or 4.74 points to trade at 136.81 in late trade. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) declined 3.21% or 4.59 points to end at 138.40 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) shed 3.11% or 5.14 points to 160.14.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were U.S. Bancorp (NYSE:USB) which rose 3.36% to 42.76, Delta Air Lines Inc (NYSE:DAL) which was up 2.30% to settle at 31.08 and Wells Fargo & Company (NYSE:WFC) which gained 1.86% to close at 43.17.
The worst performers were First Republic Bank (NYSE:FRC) which was down 16.43% to 112.59 in late trade, The Mosaic Company (NYSE:MOS) which lost 9.88% to settle at 46.86 and CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which was down 8.40% to 98.04 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Agrify Corp (NASDAQ:AGFY) which rose 53.75% to 1.45, Fednat Holding Co (NASDAQ:FNHC) which was up 48.02% to settle at 0.52 and Imara Inc (NASDAQ:IMRA) which gained 46.90% to close at 3.79.
The worst performers were TOP Financial Group Ltd (NASDAQ:TOP) which was down 73.47% to 5.49 in late trade, Alfi Inc (NASDAQ:ALF) which lost 69.90% to settle at 0.25 and Novo Integrated Sciences Inc (NASDAQ:NVOS) which was down 61.94% to 0.29 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2526 to 573 and 92 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2723 fell and 1000 advanced, while 232 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.25% to 32.02.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.67% or 28.00 to $1,649.00 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November fell 3.77% or 3.36 to hit $85.75 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract fell 2.95% or 2.79 to trade at $91.78 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.52% to 0.97, while USD/JPY rose 0.98% to 148.67.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.83% at 113.18.
