Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Friday, as losses in the Consumer Goods, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 0.31% to hit a new 1-month low, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.23%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 0.09%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH), which rose 0.99% or 4.96 points to trade at 506.10 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 0.66% or 1.09 points to end at 166.28 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was up 0.49% or 0.86 points to 174.79 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 1.79% or 1.48 points to trade at 81.25 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 1.54% or 0.33 points to end at 21.12 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) shed 1.47% or 0.75 points to 50.25.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were ON Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ:ON) which rose 3.17% to 93.81, Broadcom Inc (NASDAQ:AVGO) which was up 2.56% to settle at 829.08 and FactSet Research Systems Inc (NYSE:FDS) which gained 2.12% to close at 435.82.
The worst performers were Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which was down 7.45% to 15.66 in late trade, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which lost 4.96% to settle at 12.64 and Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was down 4.23% to 244.88 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Cheche Group Inc (NASDAQ:CCG) which rose 31.45% to 19.52, Synaptogenix Inc (NASDAQ:SNPX) which was up 30.17% to settle at 0.37 and Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) which gained 28.86% to close at 2.59.
The worst performers were Neptune Wellness Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:NEPT) which was down 59.75% to 1.61 in late trade, Powerbridge Technologies Co Ltd (NASDAQ:PBTS) which lost 34.19% to settle at 1.39 and Morphic Holding Inc (NASDAQ:MORF) which was down 28.64% to 36.68 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1563 to 1347 and 78 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2022 fell and 1423 advanced, while 144 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.94% to 17.20.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.26% or 5.00 to $1,944.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 0.83% or 0.74 to hit $90.37 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 0.38% or 0.35 to trade at $93.65 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.13% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.55% to 148.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.23% at 105.29.
