Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.02% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.05%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.66%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT), which rose 2.80% or 3.58 points to trade at 131.40 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 2.66% or 4.93 points to end at 190.15 and Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) was up 2.06% or 0.93 points to 46.03 in late trade.
Biggest losers included JPMorgan Chase & Co (NYSE:JPM), which lost 1.10% or 1.21 points to trade at 109.16 in late trade. Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) declined 0.52% or 0.30 points to end at 57.24 and Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) 0.00% or 0.00 points to 189.81.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which rose 5.31% to 335.49, Vertex Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:VRTX) which was up 3.43% to settle at 173.51 and Foot Locker Inc (NYSE:FL) which gained 3.33% to close at 42.20.
The worst performers were CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which was down 3.09% to 42.03 in late trade, Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which lost 2.76% to settle at 36.94 and Range Resources Corp (NYSE:RRC) which was down 2.67% to 7.29 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Stewardship Financial Corp (NASDAQ:SSFN) which rose 72.58% to 15.36, The Dixie Group Inc (NASDAQ:DXYN) which was up 55.39% to settle at 0.650 and Beyond Meat Inc (NASDAQ:BYND) which gained 39.35% to close at 138.65.
The worst performers were Liquid Media Group Ltd (NASDAQ:YVR) which was down 28.51% to 1.630 in late trade, Pareteum Corp (NASDAQ:TEUM) which lost 24.34% to settle at 2.580 and Jaguar Health Inc (NASDAQ:JAGX) which was down 22.95% to 6.990 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2175 to 813 and 96 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1665 rose and 979 declined, while 103 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.32% to 16.30.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.16% or 2.20 to $1344.90 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in July rose 2.78% or 1.46 to hit $54.05 a barrel, while the August Brent oil contract rose 2.63% or 1.62 to trade at $63.29 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.52% to 1.1333, while USD/JPY fell 0.19% to 108.19.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 96.532.
