Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Utilities and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.53%, while the S&P 500 index gained 0.59%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.21%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 3.09% or 5.32 points to trade at 177.40 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 1.55% or 1.34 points to end at 88.01 and The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) was up 1.22% or 2.28 points to 189.48 in late trade.
Biggest losers included 3M Company (NYSE:MMM), which lost 1.19% or 1.45 points to trade at 120.14 in late trade. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) declined 0.51% or 1.34 points to end at 263.92 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) shed 0.28% or 0.37 points to 131.86.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were APA Corporation (NASDAQ:APA) which rose 5.73% to 47.25, CarMax Inc (NYSE:KMX) which was up 5.17% to settle at 60.16 and Hess Corporation (NYSE:HES) which gained 4.72% to close at 141.68.
The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 4.44% to 199.08 in late trade, Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which lost 2.32% to settle at 191.24 and DexCom Inc (NASDAQ:DXCM) which was down 1.97% to 111.44 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Expion360 Inc (NASDAQ:XPON) which rose 139.19% to 2.35, Akso Health Group DRC (NASDAQ:AHG) which was up 1.57% to settle at 0.40 and Elys Game Technology Corp (NASDAQ:ELYS) which gained 47.09% to close at 0.17.
The worst performers were Applied Molecular Transport Inc (NASDAQ:AMTI) which was down 57.77% to 0.44 in late trade, E-Home Household Service Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:EJH) which lost 52.59% to settle at 0.64 and Mingzhu Logistics Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:YGMZ) which was down 50.84% to 1.75 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2101 to 959 and 111 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1904 rose and 1764 declined, while 212 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.01% to 20.87.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.57% or 10.25 to $1,805.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February rose 2.80% or 2.17 to hit $79.66 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract rose 4.40% or 3.56 to trade at $84.54 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.23% to 1.06, while USD/JPY rose 0.38% to 132.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.12% at 104.01.
