Investing.com – Brazil stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Basic Materials, Real Estate and Financials sectors led shares lower.
At the close in Sao Paulo, the Bovespa lost 0.57%.
The best performers of the session on the Bovespa were Lojas Americanas SA (SA:LAME4), which rose 5.79% or 1.04 points to trade at 19.00 at the close. Meanwhile, Cia Energetica de Sao Paulo (SA:CESP6) added 5.13% or 0.66 points to end at 13.52 and Oi SA (SA:OIBR4) was up 4.69% or 0.09 points to 2.01 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were Bradespar SA (SA:BRAP4), which fell 5.94% or 0.31 points to trade at 4.91 at the close. Vale SA (SA:VALE3) declined 4.39% or 0.58 points to end at 12.64 and Vale SA (SA:VALE5) was down 4.09% or 0.43 points to 10.09.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the Sao Paulo Stock Exchange by 203 to 131 and 7 ended unchanged.
Shares in Lojas Americanas SA (SA:LAME4) rose to 3-years highs; rising 5.79% or 1.04 to 19.00.
The CBOE Brazil Etf Volatility, which measures the implied volatility of Bovespa options, was up 4.01% to 43.06.
Gold for February delivery was down 0.76% or 8.20 to $1067.70 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 3.35% or 1.27 to hit $36.83 a barrel, while the March US coffee C contract fell 0.56% or 0.68 to trade at $118.92 .
USD/BRL was down 1.96% to 3.8586, while EUR/BRL fell 1.87% to 4.2345.
The US Dollar Index was down 0.03% at 97.98.
