Investing.com – U.S. equities were mixed at the close on Friday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Basic Materials and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher while losses in the Consumer Goods, Utilities and Telecoms sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 0.33%, while the S&P 500 index added 0.18%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.02%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 4.18% or 1.47 points to trade at 36.61 at the close. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) added 2.05% or 3.31 points to end at 164.41 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 1.80% or 5.07 points to 286.20 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 7.43% or 1.88 points to trade at 23.43 in late trade. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) declined 2.44% or 2.04 points to end at 81.64 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) shed 0.89% or 0.54 points to 59.30.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Hewlett Packard Enterprise Co (NYSE:HPE) which rose 5.83% to 17.98, Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) which was up 4.18% to settle at 36.61 and Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ:STX) which gained 4.11% to close at 73.70.
The worst performers were Warner Bros Discovery Inc (NASDAQ:WBD) which was down 12.02% to 11.56 in late trade, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which lost 9.54% to settle at 13.65 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which was down 7.43% to 23.43 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Tradeup Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:UPTD) which rose 201.37% to 22.00, Axcella Health Inc (NASDAQ:AXLA) which was up 81.82% to settle at 0.42 and Edible Garden AG Inc (NASDAQ:EDBL) which gained 54.26% to close at 1.99.
The worst performers were Biodexa Pharmaceuticals PLC DRC (NASDAQ:BDRX) which was down 27.41% to 5.80 in late trade, iCoreConnect Inc (NASDAQ:ICCT) which lost 26.92% to settle at 8.74 and Aditx Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ADTX) which was down 24.80% to 41.36 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1909 to 984 and 95 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2191 rose and 1276 declined, while 113 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.54% to 13.09 a new 1-month low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.05% or 0.90 to $1,966.80 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in October rose 2.69% or 2.25 to hit $85.88 a barrel, while the November Brent oil contract rose 2.23% or 1.94 to trade at $88.77 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.59% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.44% to 146.16.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.59% at 104.20.
