Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 1.35%, while the S&P 500 index fell 1.23%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 1.40%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX), which rose 0.16% or 0.25 points to trade at 160.69 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 0.12% or 0.07 points to end at 59.50 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) was down 0.22% or 0.13 points to 59.86 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which lost 3.48% or 10.60 points to trade at 294.14 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 2.84% or 2.65 points to end at 90.54 and American Express Company (NYSE:AXP) shed 2.81% or 6.34 points to 219.59.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Conagra Brands Inc (NYSE:CAG) which rose 5.44% to 30.64, MarketAxess Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MKTX) which was up 4.58% to settle at 224.79 and CF Industries Holdings Inc (NYSE:CF) which gained 3.57% to close at 86.18.
The worst performers were Lamb Weston Holdings Inc (NYSE:LW) which was down 19.33% to 81.58 in late trade, Paramount Global Class B (NASDAQ:PARA) which lost 8.51% to settle at 12.37 and Advanced Micro Devices Inc (NASDAQ:AMD) which was down 8.26% to 165.83 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Candel Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:CADL) which rose 280.95% to 6.40, TC BioPharm Holdings PLC (NASDAQ:TCBP) which was up 50.00% to settle at 1.95 and HWH International Inc (NASDAQ:HWH) which gained 46.50% to close at 2.30.
The worst performers were Locust Walk Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:EFTR) which was down 82.03% to 2.96 in late trade, Keyarch Acquisition Corp (NASDAQ:KYCH) which lost 54.80% to settle at 4.10 and Jiuzi Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:JZXN) which was down 40.94% to 0.88 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 0 to 0; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 0 fell and 0 advanced on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.86% to 16.49 a new 3-month high.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.04% or 0.95 to $2,307.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 0.16% or 0.14 to hit $86.45 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 0.09% or 0.08 to trade at $90.73 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.04% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.05% to 151.40.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 104.04.
