Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Thursday, as losses in the Healthcare, Consumer Goods and Utilities sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.65%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.81%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.94%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 6.91% or 5.84 points to trade at 90.34 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 0.78% or 1.50 points to end at 193.33 and UnitedHealth Group Incorporated (NYSE:UNH) was up 0.42% or 2.27 points to 539.00 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which lost 3.37% or 9.20 points to trade at 264.06 in late trade. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) declined 2.72% or 8.05 points to end at 287.87 and Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) shed 2.62% or 0.55 points to 20.45.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Transdigm Group Incorporated (NYSE:TDG) which rose 8.70% to 973.07, Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) which was up 6.91% to settle at 90.34 and Tapestry Inc (NYSE:TPR) which gained 2.95% to close at 28.27.
The worst performers were Becton Dickinson and Company (NYSE:BDX) which was down 9.25% to 232.24 in late trade, Corteva Inc (NYSE:CTVA) which lost 8.45% to settle at 44.51 and Axon Enterprise Inc (NASDAQ:AXON) which was down 6.05% to 215.70 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Intelligent Bio Solutions Inc (NASDAQ:INBS) which rose 92.51% to 0.44, Astra Space Inc (NASDAQ:ASTR) which was up 86.49% to settle at 1.38 and Janone Inc (NASDAQ:JAN) which gained 65.42% to close at 0.53.
The worst performers were Atara Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ATRA) which was down 80.17% to 0.24 in late trade, Davis Commodities Ltd (NASDAQ:DTCK) which lost 70.83% to settle at 2.03 and Ikena Oncology Inc (NASDAQ:IKNA) which was down 67.80% to 1.33 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2127 to 789 and 51 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2531 fell and 922 advanced, while 107 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 5.81% to 15.29.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.29% or 5.65 to $1,963.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.27% or 0.20 to hit $75.53 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.40% or 0.32 to trade at $79.86 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.36% to 1.07, while USD/JPY rose 0.26% to 151.35.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.31% at 105.78.
