Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Financials, Oil & Gas and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.55%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.63%, and the NASDAQ Composite index declined 0.10%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which rose 3.19% or 3.99 points to trade at 128.96 at the close. Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) added 1.37% or 1.98 points to end at 146.23 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) was up 1.20% or 3.45 points to 290.36 in late trade.
Biggest losers included The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV), which lost 3.13% or 3.65 points to trade at 112.89 in late trade. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) declined 3.11% or 5.21 points to end at 162.14 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) shed 2.65% or 3.30 points to 121.10.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Waters Corporation (NYSE:WAT) which rose 7.08% to 216.45, eBay Inc (NASDAQ:EBAY) which was up 3.99% to settle at 57.59 and BlackRock Inc (NYSE:BLK) which gained 3.91% to close at 638.96.
The worst performers were Royal Caribbean Cruises Ltd (NYSE:RCL) which was down 13.20% to 60.61 in late trade, Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which lost 8.24% to settle at 16.59 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was down 7.76% to 14.03 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Medigus Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:MDGS) which rose 52.91% to 2.890, Aethlon Medical Inc (NASDAQ:AEMD) which was up 33.11% to settle at 1.970 and Onconova Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:ONTX) which gained 24.46% to close at 0.3363.
The worst performers were Loop Industries Inc (NASDAQ:LOOP) which was down 32.56% to 7.83 in late trade, Wah Fu Education Group Ltd (NASDAQ:WAFU) which lost 31.30% to settle at 4.720 and Gulfport Energy Corporation (NASDAQ:GPOR) which was down 29.78% to 0.359 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 2085 to 991 and 94 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1695 fell and 1183 advanced, while 72 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.99% to 26.07.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 1.78% or 34.35 to $1894.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in November rose 1.95% or 0.77 to hit $40.20 a barrel, while the December Brent oil contract unchanged 0.00% or 0.00 to trade at $42.42 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.02% to 1.1746, while USD/JPY rose 0.01% to 105.48.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.45% at 93.525.
