Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Tuesday, as losses in the Consumer Goods, Financials and Healthcare sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average declined 0.45%, while the S&P 500 index declined 0.43%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.64%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Honeywell International Inc (NASDAQ:HON), which rose 1.03% or 2.32 points to trade at 228.05 at the close. Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) added 0.91% or 0.52 points to end at 57.52 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 0.87% or 1.49 points to 173.34 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V), which lost 3.24% or 7.14 points to trade at 213.35 in late trade. Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) declined 2.26% or 4.85 points to end at 209.40 and International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM) shed 1.73% or 2.12 points to 120.78.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were DR Horton Inc (NYSE:DHI) which rose 4.84% to 97.21, International Flavors & Fragrances Inc (NYSE:IFF) which was up 3.99% to settle at 153.42 and Gap Inc (NYSE:GPS) which gained 3.64% to close at 25.37.
The worst performers were PayPal Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:PYPL) which was down 11.68% to 202.62 in late trade, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which lost 11.26% to settle at 1032.01 and TripAdvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP) which was down 9.49% to 31.56 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Katapult Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:KPLT) which rose 36.02% to 5.64, Guaranty Federal Bancshares Inc (NASDAQ:GFED) which was up 32.75% to settle at 31.90 and Altimeter Growth Corp (NASDAQ:AGC) which gained 25.20% to close at 15.35.
The worst performers were Amyris Inc (NASDAQ:AMRS) which was down 36.59% to 8.23 in late trade, Pioneer Pow (NASDAQ:PPSI) which lost 29.62% to settle at 7.320 and Shattuck Labs Inc (NASDAQ:STTK) which was down 29.25% to 13.47 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1705 to 1490 and 131 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2177 fell and 1429 advanced, while 148 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 4.70% to 18.03.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 0.29% or 5.35 to $1833.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 2.90% or 2.38 to hit $84.31 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 1.75% or 1.46 to trade at $84.89 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.07% to 1.1594, while USD/JPY fell 0.30% to 112.88.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.09% at 93.957.
