Investing.com – U.S. equities were lower at the close on Wednesday, as losses in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 0.19%, while the S&P 500 index lost 0.39%, and the NASDAQ Composite index fell 0.58%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 4.24% or 0.87 points to trade at 21.38 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 1.18% or 2.76 points to end at 236.92 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.12% or 1.14 points to 102.83 in late trade.
Biggest losers included American Express Company (NYSE:AXP), which lost 1.81% or 3.09 points to trade at 167.59 in late trade. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) declined 1.55% or 0.65 points to end at 41.27 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) shed 1.22% or 1.94 points to 156.61.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Campbell Soup Company (NYSE:CPB) which rose 7.18% to 43.27, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 5.91% to settle at 17.48 and Bath & Body Works Inc. (NYSE:BBWI) which gained 4.94% to close at 36.99.
The worst performers were Brown Forman (NYSE:BFb) which was down 10.37% to 53.98 in late trade, First Solar Inc (NASDAQ:FSLR) which lost 6.50% to settle at 145.29 and Old Dominion Freight Line Inc (NASDAQ:ODFL) which was down 5.55% to 372.89 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were MicroAlgo Inc (NASDAQ:MLGO) which rose 295.87% to 9.58, Sera Prognostics Inc (NASDAQ:SERA) which was up 161.43% to settle at 5.49 and Altamira Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:CYTO) which gained 54.70% to close at 0.56.
The worst performers were Webuy Global Ltd (NASDAQ:WBUY) which was down 60.84% to 2.33 in late trade, Neurosense Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:NRSN) which lost 35.84% to settle at 0.72 and Starbox Group Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:STBX) which was down 34.45% to 0.14 at the close.
Declining stocks outnumbered rising ones by 1468 to 1408 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1779 fell and 1702 advanced, while 108 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 0.93% to 12.97.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was up 0.38% or 7.65 to $2,043.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in January fell 4.29% or 3.10 to hit $69.22 a barrel, while the February Brent oil contract fell 3.87% or 2.99 to trade at $74.21 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.28% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.15% to 147.37.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 104.14.
