Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Friday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Consumer Services and Technology sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 1.26%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.44%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.74%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD), which rose 3.42% or 9.76 points to trade at 295.12 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) added 2.27% or 2.33 points to end at 105.11 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 2.11% or 2.54 points to 122.64 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 0.14% or 0.05 points to trade at 34.58 in late trade. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) added 0.10% or 0.25 points to end at 241.75 and Coca-Cola Co (NYSE:KO) gained 0.29% or 0.18 points to 62.03.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Align Technology Inc (NASDAQ:ALGN) which rose 7.15% to 334.14, Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was up 6.24% to settle at 207.46 and ServiceNow Inc (NYSE:NOW) which gained 5.71% to close at 464.72.
The worst performers were Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was down 4.36% to 60.34 in late trade, Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) which lost 3.54% to settle at 108.01 and Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which was down 3.05% to 0.18 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Y mAbs Therapeutics (NASDAQ:YMAB) which rose 52.28% to 5.01, Guardforce AI Co Ltd (NASDAQ:GFAI) which was up 45.98% to settle at 7.08 and Eastside Distilling Inc (NASDAQ:EAST) which gained 42.28% to close at 0.35.
The worst performers were Gorilla Technology Group Inc (NASDAQ:GRRR) which was down 59.29% to 4.80 in late trade, G Medical Innovations Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:GMVD) which lost 45.18% to settle at 0.91 and Virgin Orbit Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:VORB) which was down 41.19% to 0.20 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2491 to 519 and 72 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2568 rose and 1040 declined, while 175 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 1.68% to 18.70.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was down 0.50% or 10.00 to $1,987.70 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May rose 1.60% or 1.19 to hit $75.56 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract rose 1.50% or 1.18 to trade at $79.78 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.55% to 1.08, while USD/JPY rose 0.07% to 132.74.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.44% at 102.27.
