Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Financials, Consumer Services and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 1.16%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.90%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 0.61%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN), which rose 3.97% or 9.66 points to trade at 252.94 at the close. Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) added 2.98% or 6.89 points to end at 238.25 and Johnson & Johnson (NYSE:JNJ) was up 2.40% or 4.06 points to 173.10 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which lost 1.73% or 3.14 points to trade at 178.85 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 0.27% or 0.28 points to end at 105.23 and Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) shed 0.28% or 0.09 points to 32.53.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Monster Beverage Corp (NASDAQ:MNST) which rose 6.13% to 58.49, Booking Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:BKNG) which was up 5.87% to settle at 3,243.01 and Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which gained 5.13% to close at 18.04.
The worst performers were Moderna Inc (NASDAQ:MRNA) which was down 6.46% to 101.20 in late trade, Tyson Foods Inc (NYSE:TSN) which lost 3.83% to settle at 54.30 and Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was down 3.25% to 135.45 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were VistaGen Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:VTGN) which rose 676.79% to 13.05, Save Foods Inc (NASDAQ:SVFD) which was up 143.75% to settle at 1.56 and Nektar Therapeutics (NASDAQ:NKTR) which gained 91.51% to close at 1.02.
The worst performers were Sage Therapeutic (NASDAQ:SAGE) which was down 53.60% to 16.75 in late trade, Tivic Health Systems Inc (NASDAQ:TIVC) which lost 37.24% to settle at 0.05 and Aceragen Inc (NASDAQ:ACGN) which was down 34.32% to 0.49 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1811 to 1114 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1963 fell and 1569 advanced, while 121 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.78% to 15.77.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.26% or 5.05 to $1,971.05 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.36% or 0.30 to hit $82.52 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.44% or 0.38 to trade at $85.86 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.09% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.53% to 142.50.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.07% at 101.90.
