Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Services and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.14% to hit a new 1-month high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.33%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.99%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 3.41% or 5.46 points to trade at 165.56 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 2.96% or 2.90 points to end at 100.84 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 2.24% or 2.77 points to 126.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which lost 0.50% or 0.64 points to trade at 127.90 in late trade. The Travelers Companies Inc (NYSE:TRV) declined 0.37% or 0.64 points to end at 173.20 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) gained 0.05% or 0.03 points to 56.92.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were SolarEdge Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:SEDG) which rose 7.70% to 306.89, Enphase Energy Inc (NASDAQ:ENPH) which was up 6.97% to settle at 209.69 and Signature Bank (OTC:SBNY) which gained 6.60% to close at 0.16.
The worst performers were Progressive Corp (NYSE:PGR) which was down 6.71% to 138.21 in late trade, Lumen Technologies Inc (NYSE:LUMN) which lost 4.47% to settle at 2.35 and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which was down 2.95% to 36.88 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were CXApp Inc (NASDAQ:CXAI) which rose 345.63% to 7.13, Inpixon (NASDAQ:INPX) which was up 128.43% to settle at 0.72 and SAB Biotherapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:SABS) which gained 99.71% to close at 0.76.
The worst performers were GlucoTrack Inc (NASDAQ:GCTK) which was down 49.26% to 1.37 in late trade, ViewRay Inc (NASDAQ:VRAY) which lost 39.20% to settle at 1.83 and Altamira Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:CYTO) which was down 36.67% to 1.33 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2111 to 862 and 104 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2575 rose and 1032 declined, while 157 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 6.76% to 17.80 a new 52-week low.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 1.46% or 29.65 to $2,054.55 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 1.12% or 0.93 to hit $82.33 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 1.21% or 1.06 to trade at $86.27 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.55% to 1.10, while USD/JPY fell 0.36% to 132.65.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 100.68.
