Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average gained 1.13% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index added 1.44%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.67%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which rose 3.73% or 2.04 points to trade at 56.79 at the close. Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC) added 3.10% or 2.00 points to end at 66.55 and Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT) was up 2.80% or 3.80 points to 139.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS), which lost 1.27% or 4.16 points to trade at 323.48 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 1.17% or 1.24 points to end at 104.51 and Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) shed 0.26% or 0.50 points to 188.47.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Norwegian Cruise Line Holdings Ltd (NYSE:NCLH) which rose 7.21% to 29.72, General Motors Company (NYSE:GM) which was up 5.61% to settle at 61.04 and MGM Resorts International (NYSE:MGM) which gained 5.01% to close at 41.69.
The worst performers were Pioneer Natural Resources Co (NYSE:PXD) which was down 7.57% to 152.14 in late trade, Occidental Petroleum Corporation (NYSE:OXY) which lost 7.56% to settle at 25.31 and Diamondback Energy Inc (NASDAQ:FANG) which was down 7.15% to 75.41 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Chembio Diagnostics Inc (NASDAQ:CEMI) which rose 59.66% to 5.62, Xcel Brands Inc (NASDAQ:XELB) which was up 52.33% to settle at 2.940 and Sequential Brands Group Inc (NASDAQ:SQBG) which gained 33.53% to close at 29.6700.
The worst performers were Uxin Ltd (NASDAQ:UXIN) which was down 23.86% to 1.500 in late trade, Molecular Templates Inc (NASDAQ:MTEM) which lost 23.59% to settle at 9.51 and Castor Maritime Inc (NASDAQ:CTRM) which was down 20.87% to 0.584 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1878 to 1206 and 80 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1831 rose and 1382 declined, while 88 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 3.35% to 17.91.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for June delivery was up 0.03% or 0.45 to $1728.85 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in May fell 4.36% or 2.68 to hit $58.77 a barrel, while the June Brent oil contract fell 4.02% or 2.61 to trade at $62.25 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.41% to 1.1810, while USD/JPY fell 0.45% to 110.22.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.48% at 92.608.
