Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Technology and Healthcare sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.85%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.54%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.87%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.68% or 1.56 points to trade at 59.83 at the close. Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) added 2.55% or 5.07 points to end at 203.51 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) was up 2.27% or 2.18 points to 98.05 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 5.75% or 11.19 points to trade at 183.30 in late trade. Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) declined 0.54% or 0.22 points to end at 40.76 and Raytheon Technologies Corp (NYSE:RTX) shed 0.48% or 0.30 points to 61.62.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Citizens Financial Group Inc (NYSE:CFG) which rose 7.27% to 25.24, Xilinx Inc (NASDAQ:XLNX) which was up 6.99% to settle at 98.39 and Hologic Inc (NASDAQ:HOLX) which gained 6.88% to close at 57.00.
The worst performers were Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) which was down 5.75% to 183.30 in late trade, Coty Inc (NYSE:COTY) which lost 5.70% to settle at 4.47 and Molson Coors Brewing Co Class B (NYSE:TAP) which was down 2.99% to 34.36 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Polar Power Inc (NASDAQ:POLA) which rose 262.04% to 4.960, Alterity Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ATHE) which was up 103.42% to settle at 1.1900 and Apex Global Brands Inc (NASDAQ:APEX) which gained 80.65% to close at 1.1200.
The worst performers were Zynerba Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:ZYNE) which was down 48.47% to 3.37 in late trade, Puhui Wealth Investment Management Co Ltd (NASDAQ:PHCF) which lost 22.90% to settle at 6.230 and PDS Biotechnology Corp (NASDAQ:PDSB) which was down 22.69% to 2.010 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1934 to 938 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1830 rose and 874 declined, while 54 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 4.25% to 30.43.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was up 0.95% or 16.95 to $1798.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August rose 0.18% or 0.07 to hit $39.77 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 0.12% or 0.05 to trade at $41.62 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.03% to 1.1234, while USD/JPY rose 0.02% to 107.94.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.16% at 97.347.
