Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Thursday, as gains in the Technology, Oil & Gas and Industrials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.83%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 1.06%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 1.72%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO), which rose 5.50% or 2.44 points to trade at 46.77 at the close. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) added 3.46% or 6.85 points to end at 204.91 and Caterpillar Inc (NYSE:CAT) was up 3.45% or 4.32 points to 129.42 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walmart Inc (NYSE:WMT), which lost 1.93% or 1.96 points to trade at 99.57 in late trade. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) declined 1.41% or 2.54 points to end at 177.36 and Nike Inc (NYSE:NKE) shed 1.16% or 0.87 points to 74.33.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Xilinx Inc (NASDAQ:XLNX) which rose 5.63% to 88.51, Cisco Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CSCO) which was up 5.50% to settle at 46.77 and Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which gained 4.94% to close at 39.91.
The worst performers were Pacific Gas & Electric Co (NYSE:PCG) which was down 30.68% to 17.74 in late trade, Edison International (NYSE:EIX) which lost 12.40% to settle at 47.19 and NetApp Inc (NASDAQ:NTAP) which was down 11.73% to 68.88 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were AGM Group Holdings Inc Class A (NASDAQ:AGMH) which rose 46.14% to 35.98, Uniqure NV (NASDAQ:QURE) which was up 35.66% to settle at 30.93 and SITO Mobile Ltd (NASDAQ:SITO) which gained 24.99% to close at 1.200.
The worst performers were CDTi Advanced Materials Inc (NASDAQ:CDTI) which was down 58.89% to 0.5920 in late trade, Remark Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:MARK) which lost 40.24% to settle at 1.960 and Revolution Lighting Technologies (NASDAQ:RVLT) which was down 39.28% to 0.8501 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1821 to 1266 and 73 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1847 rose and 823 declined, while 55 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 5.98% to 19.98.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was up 1.20% or 14.40 to $1213.60 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in December rose 0.53% or 0.30 to hit $56.55 a barrel, while the January Brent oil contract rose 0.85% or 0.56 to trade at $66.68 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.19% to 1.1331, while USD/JPY fell 0.04% to 113.57.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.26% at 96.91.
