Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Oil & Gas, Healthcare and Basic Materials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.80%, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.82%, and the NASDAQ Composite index climbed 0.55%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were International Business Machines (NYSE:IBM), which rose 1.87% or 2.64 points to trade at 144.06 at the close. Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) added 1.83% or 4.39 points to end at 244.18 and 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) was up 1.75% or 3.46 points to 200.98 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 1.45% or 2.55 points to trade at 173.00 in late trade. McDonald’s Corporation (NYSE:MCD) declined 1.32% or 3.17 points to end at 236.93 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) shed 1.12% or 2.68 points to 237.10.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Gartner Inc (NYSE:IT) which rose 10.91% to 293.88, Pioneer Natural Resources Co (NYSE:PXD) which was up 7.94% to settle at 153.65 and Under Armour Inc A (NYSE:UAA) which gained 7.58% to close at 22.71.
The worst performers were IPG Photonics Corporation (NASDAQ:IPGP) which was down 18.31% to 177.68 in late trade, Clorox Co (NYSE:CLX) which lost 9.46% to settle at 164.06 and Take-Two Interactive Software Inc (NASDAQ:TTWO) which was down 7.72% to 159.84 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were China XD Plastics Company Limited (NASDAQ:CXDC) which rose 152.65% to 0.9300, Arcturus Therapeutics Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ARCT) which was up 67.86% to settle at 58.18 and Flora Growth Corp (NASDAQ:FLGC) which gained 62.40% to close at 12.700.
The worst performers were E-Home Household Service Holdings Ltd (NASDAQ:EJH) which was down 61.10% to 7.92 in late trade, Neuronetics Inc (NASDAQ:STIM) which lost 42.06% to settle at 7.55 and Ecmoho Ltd (NASDAQ:MOHO) which was down 38.25% to 0.8151 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1881 to 1251 and 139 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1905 fell and 1599 advanced, while 140 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 7.30% to 18.04.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.48% or 8.75 to $1813.45 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 0.91% or 0.65 to hit $70.61 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 0.58% or 0.42 to trade at $72.47 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.04% to 1.1862, while USD/JPY fell 0.20% to 109.06.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.02% at 92.088.
