Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Services, Technology and Financials sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.78% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.97%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 0.95%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL), which rose 3.94% or 5.20 points to trade at 137.16 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 3.38% or 5.88 points to end at 179.61 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 2.19% or 4.56 points to 213.26 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Boeing Co (NYSE:BA), which lost 0.81% or 1.75 points to trade at 215.40 in late trade. Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) declined 0.69% or 0.59 points to end at 84.74 and Dow Inc (NYSE:DOW) shed 0.53% or 0.29 points to 54.50.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Macy’s Inc (NYSE:M) which rose 10.05% to 11.83, TripAdvisor Inc (NASDAQ:TRIP) which was up 5.58% to settle at 27.45 and DXC Technology Co (NYSE:DXC) which gained 5.50% to close at 24.16.
The worst performers were Whirlpool Corporation (NYSE:WHR) which was down 4.04% to 185.40 in late trade, Cabot Oil & Gas Corporation (NYSE:COG) which lost 3.01% to settle at 16.43 and Lennar Corporation (NYSE:LEN) which was down 2.83% to 78.15 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Bit Digital Inc (NASDAQ:BTBT) which rose 76.34% to 10.2100, Ameri Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:AMRH) which was up 57.99% to settle at 2.670 and GreenPro Capital Corp (NASDAQ:GRNQ) which gained 54.69% to close at 1.9800.
The worst performers were Aprea Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:APRE) which was down 77.72% to 5.59 in late trade, Air T Inc (NASDAQ:AIRT) which lost 45.70% to settle at 20.84 and Addex Therapeutics Ltd (NASDAQ:ADXN) which was down 40.47% to 14.40 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 1684 to 1448 and 58 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1616 rose and 1416 declined, while 56 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 0.28% to 21.47.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for February delivery was down 0.31% or 5.85 to $1877.35 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in February fell 1.10% or 0.53 to hit $47.70 a barrel, while the March Brent oil contract fell 0.78% or 0.40 to trade at $50.94 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.02% to 1.2207, while USD/JPY rose 0.35% to 103.84.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 90.293.
