Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Tuesday, as gains in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.63%, while the S&P 500 index added 1.15%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.65%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Intel Corporation (NASDAQ:INTC), which rose 2.28% or 0.76 points to trade at 34.10 at the close. Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) added 1.90% or 5.85 points to end at 313.74 and Boeing Co (NYSE:BA) was up 1.87% or 3.85 points to 209.43 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA), which lost 9.34% or 2.95 points to trade at 28.64 in late trade. 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) declined 2.14% or 2.15 points to end at 98.26 and Amgen Inc (NASDAQ:AMGN) shed 0.94% or 2.12 points to 222.61.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Generac Holdings Inc (NYSE:GNRC) which rose 8.79% to 142.53, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 8.77% to settle at 15.88 and Newell Brands Inc (NASDAQ:NWL) which gained 7.42% to close at 8.83.
The worst performers were Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) which was down 9.34% to 28.64 in late trade, Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:REGN) which lost 8.71% to settle at 716.09 and Catalent Inc (NYSE:CTLT) which was down 4.79% to 41.72 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Black Diamond Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:BDTX) which rose 235.87% to 6.18, AC Immune Ltd (NASDAQ:ACIU) which was up 71.72% to settle at 3.40 and Leafly Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:LFLY) which gained 54.81% to close at 0.37.
The worst performers were Adicet Bio Inc (NASDAQ:ACET) which was down 54.29% to 2.13 in late trade, Nkarta Inc (NASDAQ:NKTX) which lost 37.97% to settle at 2.81 and Siyata Mobile Inc (NASDAQ:SYTA) which was down 34.80% to 0.06 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2143 to 827 and 96 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2108 rose and 1433 declined, while 149 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 3.58% to 13.74.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for August delivery was down 0.56% or 10.85 to $1,922.95 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in August fell 2.28% or 1.58 to hit $67.79 a barrel, while the September Brent oil contract fell 2.30% or 1.71 to trade at $72.64 a barrel.
EUR/USD was up 0.52% to 1.10, while USD/JPY rose 0.38% to 144.04.
The US Dollar Index Futures was down 0.20% at 102.13.
