Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Technology, Financials and Telecoms sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average added 0.62%, while the S&P 500 index gained 1.00%, and the NASDAQ Composite index added 1.34%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Visa Inc (NYSE:V), which rose 1.78% or 1.78 points to trade at 101.87 at the close. Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) added 1.50% or 2.37 points to end at 159.85 and Microsoft Corporation (NASDAQ:MSFT) was up 1.50% or 1.09 points to 73.59 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS), which lost 0.58% or 0.59 points to trade at 101.40 in late trade. Chevron Corporation (NYSE:CVX) declined 0.48% or 0.52 points to end at 108.71 and Home Depot Inc (NYSE:HD) shed 0.40% or 0.62 points to 154.26.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA) which rose 7.98% to 168.40, Micron Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MU) which was up 4.39% to settle at 29.24 and Western Digital Corporation (NASDAQ:WDC) which gained 3.67% to close at 82.83.
The worst performers were Mylan Inc (NASDAQ:MYL) which was down 4.05% to 29.63 in late trade, Marathon Oil Corporation (NYSE:MRO) which lost 3.65% to settle at 11.63 and Southwestern Energy Company (NYSE:SWN) which was down 3.00% to 5.18 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Crossroads Systems Inc (NASDAQ:CRDS) which rose 43.42% to 2.1800, Foresight Autonomous Holdings Ltd ADR (NASDAQ:FRSX) which was up 36.48% to settle at 6.36 and Tandem Dtes Care (NASDAQ:TNDM) which gained 25.00% to close at 0.55.
The worst performers were Digiliti Money Inc (NASDAQ:DGLT) which was down 43.04% to 0.2292 in late trade, SORL Auto Parts Inc (NASDAQ:SORL) which lost 20.09% to settle at 5.570 and Energy XXI Gulf Coast Inc (NASDAQ:EXXI) which was down 17.91% to 14.0300 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2379 to 778 and 88 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 1964 rose and 574 declined, while 102 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was down 20.25% to 12.37.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for December delivery was down 0.47% or 6.11 to $1287.89 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in September fell 2.68% or 1.31 to hit $47.51 a barrel, while the October Brent oil contract fell 2.78% or 1.45 to trade at $50.65 a barrel.
EUR/USD was down 0.31% to 1.1785, while USD/JPY rose 0.45% to 109.68.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.34% at 93.31.
