Investing.com – U.S. equities were higher at the close on Monday, as gains in the Consumer Goods, Technology and Consumer Services sectors propelled shares higher.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average rose 0.59% to hit a new all time high, while the S&P 500 index climbed 0.76%, and the NASDAQ Composite index gained 1.12%.
The biggest gainers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Salesforce Inc (NYSE:CRM), which rose 2.83% or 7.92 points to trade at 287.86 at the close. Walt Disney Company (NYSE:DIS) added 2.23% or 2.13 points to end at 97.49 and Visa Inc Class A (NYSE:V) was up 2.13% or 5.72 points to 273.66 in late trade.
Biggest losers included Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which lost 0.83% or 0.35 points to trade at 42.05 in late trade. Walgreens Boots Alliance Inc (NASDAQ:WBA) declined 0.57% or 0.13 points to end at 22.72 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) shed 0.36% or 0.69 points to 191.73.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Archer-Daniels-Midland Company (NYSE:ADM) which rose 5.55% to 54.94, Carnival Corporation (NYSE:CCL) which was up 4.55% to settle at 16.55 and Illumina Inc (NASDAQ:ILMN) which gained 4.33% to close at 146.72.
The worst performers were HP Inc (NYSE:HPQ) which was down 2.53% to 29.24 in late trade, International Paper (NYSE:IP) which lost 2.26% to settle at 36.72 and Seagate Technology PLC (NASDAQ:STX) which was down 2.00% to 88.63 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Onemednet Corp (NASDAQ:ONMD) which rose 168.21% to 1.37, Palisade Bio Inc (NASDAQ:PALI) which was up 83.21% to settle at 0.96 and FibroGen Inc (NASDAQ:FGEN) which gained 82.71% to close at 1.71.
The worst performers were Panbela Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ:PBLA) which was down 65.34% to 1.48 in late trade, Corbus Pharmaceuticals Holding (NASDAQ:CRBP) which lost 36.86% to settle at 18.62 and Arrival Vault USA Inc (NASDAQ:ARVL) which was down 33.69% to 0.49 at the close.
Advancing stocks outnumbered falling ones by 2048 to 820 and 79 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2377 rose and 1089 declined, while 92 ended unchanged on the New York Stock Exchange.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 2.56% to 13.60.
In commodities trading, Gold Futures for April delivery was up 0.69% or 14.05 to $2,050.15 a troy ounce. Meanwhile, Crude oil for delivery in March fell 1.31% or 1.02 to hit $76.99 a barrel, while the April Brent oil contract fell 1.12% or 0.93 to trade at $82.02 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.18% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.45% to 147.49.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.05% at 103.29.
